EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful, effective, and evidence-based treatment for PTSD. EMDR incorporates bilateral stimulation with a comprehensive approach to process and releases information that has been trapped in the body and the mind “re-wiring” the brain and freeing survivors of trauma from years of disturbing body sensations, images, oppressive thinking, beliefs, and destabilizing emotions. Millions of people of all ages all over the world have benefited from EMDR – survivors of childhood abuse, war, disasters, accidents, and domestic violence.
EMDR can also be used to treat symptoms of trauma-based anxiety and depression, smaller “t” developmental trauma, grief/loss, symptoms of ADHD, issues with self-esteem and negative self-talk, phobias, relationship and dating struggles, and career or creative blocks. It can be an extremely effective way to help people remove blocks and develop a much deeper, more connected, and joyful experience in their relationships.
Attachment-Focused EMDR incorporates resource tapping – a meditative parts work used to strengthen and repair developmental deficits with relational talk therapy and EMDR. AF-EMDR offers EMDR to people who would have more difficulty tolerating EMDR due to attachment issues and childhood-based relational trauma. The pace and scope are very client-centered. We can still work fairly quickly like more traditional EMDR or it can be weaved into more dynamic work over time. Often we will discuss adjunctive body work like yoga, acupuncture, attachment-based meditation, or exercise that can help to further support the body and mind to release and adjust to changes.
